A collaborative project between Jørgen and Mads Nørgaard, Peter Shire and Space Magazine
A leopard doesn’t change its spots, but the #101 T-shirt can change its stripes. Together with Space Magazine, we have handed our everlasting 101 over to Los Angeles-based artist Peter Shire. His quirky and colorful brain is now responsible for a rare and bold reinterpretation of our beloved stripes.
Peter Shire is born, raised and still living in the vibrant East Los Angeles neighborhood of Echo Park. The area is credited as his source of inspiration, throughout an artistic career spanning more than 40 years and every type of art imaginable. His characteristic and colorful style is now being applied to the classic Mads Nørgaard universe and we are pleased to present three brand new styles of the #101 T-shirts. Each individually reworked by Shire and his eye for combining colors.
The work of Peter Shire has often been described as a new wave of Bauhaus. Due to the vibrant nature of his art and his use of angular shapes, it’s easy to understand the comparison to one of the greatest design movements ever. His ability to match shapes and colors like no other has translated into sculptures, furniture and public installations as well as his lifelong project of painted tiles. His unique style made him an integral part of Ettore Sottsass’ influential design collective, Memphis Group, in the early eighties.
To no surprise, we love to explore the spheres evolving fashion and art. When you combine talent with different approaches and different backgrounds, great ideas surface and turn into something beautiful and substantial. Our collaboration with Space Magazine and Peter Shire is yet another example of this. We are very happy and extremely proud to present the Peter Shire #101 T-shirt – a modern reinterpretation of a classic.
The Peter Shire #101 Shirt will be available in three different colorways. Each color is limited to 50 pieces. The collection will be sold exclusivly in our store on Strøget from January 13th 2016.
